Teledrama actress and Gampaha District parliamentarian Upeksha Swarnamali’s husband Mahesh Chaminda who was produced before Nugegoda Magistrate and Additional District Judge H. M. R. Anura Kumara, by the Mirihana Police yesterday, was enlarged in Rs 2,500 cash and Rs 100,000 surety bail.
Swarnamali ‘Paba’ who is still warded at the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital, following injuries received as a result of an alleged assault by her husband, had earlier lodged a complaint with the Hospital Police. She received facial injuries.
Following her complaint Mirihana Police instructed her husband to report to the police station to record a statement.
However he avoided the Police for nearly a week and appeared before Nugegoda SP Deshabandu Tennekoon on Monday.
The case was postponed for May 2.
